Nicola Coughlan’s debut at the BAFTA Film Awards called for a special dress, and for her, only Valentino would do. “There’s something amazing about what Pierpaolo Piccioli does – he thinks about every woman. Valentino’s one of the only houses where I can wear [pieces] directly off the couture runway,” the Bridgerton actor tells Vogue. Her chosen look was the fourth outfit from Valentino’s spring 2022 couture show, a floral-print fit-and-flare gown that reminded Coughlan of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s style in the 1960s.
Coughlan has worn a bright pink gown from the same collection at the TV BAFTAs last year and was drawn to the collection’s celebration of beauty in diverse forms. She was impressed by Pierpaolo’s authenticity, which she said is not seeking praise. Coughlan’s beauty look was inspired by the ’60s era, with Brigitte Bardot-style hair by Leigh Keates, and navy eyeliner in a feline flick by Neil Young using Lancôme that perfectly complemented the floral detailing on the dress. “It’s been so fun putting it all together,” Coughlan shared.
